Learning Corner: Naming the Stress in the Room
Estimated Time to Complete: 20 minutes
Objective:
To give your team a simple, safe way to name what is weighing on them and pick one change that would help.
Materials Needed:
A team meeting slot
Sticky notes or a shared online board
Activity Steps:
1. Set it up (3 minutes)
Tell the team you want to hear what is making work harder right now, and that the goal is to fix one thing together.
2. Write it down (5 minutes)
Each person writes one or two sources of stress, one per sticky note. Keep it anonymous if your team prefers.
3. Group the notes (5 minutes)
Cluster similar notes together and give each cluster a short name, like "too many priorities" or "late changes."
4. Pick one (7 minutes)
Ask the team which cluster, if improved, would make the biggest difference. Agree on one small change to try for two weeks and who will own it.
Key Takeaways:
Stress shrinks when people can name it.
Teams often know the fix. They need permission to say it.
Small changes tried quickly build trust.
Reflection Prompt:
What is one source of stress on your team that you have been treating as normal? What would it take to test a change?
